More information about us and our upcoming event

THANK YOU for your interest! We have been thrilled with the level of support and enthusiasm from the neighborhood thus far. Midwood really is the best, isn’t it?

As a quick reminder of who we are and what we are doing: The Friends of Kilgo is a neighborhood group comprised of Midwoodians who wish to recognize Kilgo UMC and all that it does for our community. To that end, we are kicking off our efforts with Kilgo Appreciation Day on Saturday, November 13 from 10am-2pm. During that event, volunteers (YOU!) will meet on Kilgo’s front lawn to work on some landscaping projects, repaint some rooms in the Education Building, and tackle a few other maintenance projects that will benefit Kilgo and, in turn, our community. Not available on November 13? No worries! See below for the many other ways you can support our cause.

Event Details.
To ensure a successful event, we’re striving to match our workload with the number of available volunteers. No sense biting off more than we can chew! Please let us know if you can volunteer at KAD. (Email us at friendsofkilgo@gmail.com) If you are unable to be there for the entire event, no problem. Just let us know the approximate time frame you’ll be able to join us. Thus far, we have 3 project areas: (1) landscaping, (2) painting, and (3) clean up/spruce up the Kid’s Church area. We will try to assign volunteers to project areas based on their interests, but we can’t guarantee you will get your preferred project.

Got kids?
This just in: The Mary Spray Children’s Center – the 5 Star rated daycare facility located on Kilgo’s grounds - has generously offered to provide childcare during the entire event! Infants through age 8 are welcome. Please let us know in advance if you’d like to take advantage of this opportunity. Space is limited!

Can We Borrow Your Stuff?
We’ve got volunteers, now we need equipment! We are purchasing supplies for KAD this week and would really love to keep our costs down by borrowing as many shovels, rakes, paint trays, rollers, buckets, ladders, gloves, etc. as we can find. We even need a stump grinder and an auger, if you happen to have one laying around. We will soon be posting a list of needed equipment here and on our facebook page. If you own or have access to any of the listed items and would be willing to lend them, please let us know. Put your name on it visibly and legibly. We will keep a record of all equipment lent and we promise to get it back to you after the event. If we break it, we’ll buy you a new one.

Cool Tee Shirts!
We are offering free tee shirts to event volunteers while supplies last. You can also purchase a tee shirt for $10 each. Short sleeve navy with The Friends of Kilgo logo on the front in white, and “It’s a neighborhood thing…” across the back in white. Très chic! Ladies, we even have a more fitted style for you. You know you want one!

Become a Friend of Kilgo.
We would also love to have you become a Friend of Kilgo. Household memberships are available for $10. Membership fees will help defray the expenses of this worthwhile (but costly!) endeavor. We are definitely a NON-profit. Additional donations are always welcome.

Spread the Word!
Help us get the word out about our organization and our event! Ask your neighbors, your friends, your family members to join our efforts. Maybe your neighbor can’t come to the event, but he’s got a few shovels to lend. Your friend is away at the beach that weekend? Maybe she’d like to become a member. And of course our tee shirts make great holiday gifts for that special someone on your list (okay, maybe that’s a stretch).
